Committee launches website for events
by BOBBI FOULDS, The Weekly Anchor
The countdown has begun, and as of January 26, there are less than 339 days left th before the start of the 100 Anniversary kickoff celebrations.
Committee heads Ivan Strang and Les Halliwell, accompanied by several other committee members made a special announcement to the Town of Edson Council, residents and the press explaining new developments for Edson's centennial in 2011.
www.edson100.com is the virtual place to be, with extraordinary graphics, and sneak peeks into upcoming events, as well as a small mercantile where limited edition merchandise is available for purchase. Links to vintage photographs, stories run in the media, maps of Edson and accommodations are available on the user- friendly website.
As Halliwell explained, the calendar of events will be updated regularly, and can be located on the website as well in the packages, but a word to the wise… If you or your organization is planning an event during the year 2011, contact the committee. “We have many events planned throughout the year, and our resources will be stressed to the maximum. Let's try to accommodate everyone by working together.”
Halliwell and media liaison Dale Schnirer continued the presentation, briefly describing the events taking place each month, but placed special emphasis on the three-ticketed events.
“These events are the only ones the public will have to pay for during the year-long celebration. The tickets are to help cover the cost of those specific events,” Schnirer explained, adding reasonably priced tickets for the Shumka Dancers , Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and the Homecoming Dinner and Ball would the majority of residents to take part.
If you or your group are planning an event, please make sure to contact Les Halliwell, chairman of the events committee, at (780) 723-3713. We want to avoid double booking of events in order that everyone can attend the maximum number of functions! Bookings will be done on a "first come, first serve" basis.
